ProgPOW is a new Proof of Work algorithm proposed for Ethereum. The purpose of ProgPOW (which stands for Programmatic Proof of Work) is to make GPU miners more competitive with ASIC miners. This aims to reduce miner centralization that we've seen plague many cryptocurrencies. ProgPOW was introduced and developed by the IfDefElse team which includes Kristy-Leigh Minehan (@OhGodAGirl). The code has been reviewed positively by Ethereum Core Devs as well as AMD/Nvidia engineers.
